Here in Wales, we’ve recently entered another lockdown. The “circuit-breaker” lockdown lasts just over 2 weeks and is supposed to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and ease pressure on our NHS. In Wales, and around the rest of the UK, lots of people are still working from home.

Working from home comes with many benefits – you get to stay in your pyjamas all day if you want to, you get to spend more time with your family and pets, and less travelling means a smaller carbon footprint and less travel expenses. But here’s some tips to do it more sustainably and reduce your impact on the planet!

Unplug your devices when they’re not charging – not only is this better for your devices and their batteries, it’s much better for the planet! What’s the point in using electricity to charge your devices all day when they have batteries to power themselves?

Be smart with your supplies:
♥ Finish your old notebooks before starting a new one. We know how tempting it can be to buy a fresh new notebook to try and motivate yourself but think of the planet!
♥ If you do need to buy a new notebook, try and buy ones that are made fully out of paper (no plastic covers or inserts) so they can be recycled, or better still, buy ones that are made from recycled paper.
♥ If you need to buy stationary, be as sustainable as possible – don’t buy disposable pens, buy recycled pencils, use paper/card dividers and cut down on plastic pockets.
♥ Try and kit your house out with energy saving bulbs. They’re much better for the environment and will save you money too!

Support local businesses: try and buy your supplies from local shops and businesses to help boost your local economy and support local families.

You can boost your motivation by adding some green to your work area – buy some potted plants, even if they’re low maintenance ones. Keep hydrated (why not treat yourself to one of our gorgeous water bottles). And don’t forget to stay positive!
